Cheap Decorating Ideas for a Little Girl’s Bedroom

Decorating your little girl’s bedroom on a budget doesn’t need to be stressful. It is possible to give your little princess the room of her dreams by following these simple steps.

Choose the Paint

Let your little girl help choose the paint color for her bedroom. Whether she decides on lime green or shocking pink, let her have it. Don’t worry, in a few years she will want to paint it again, and hopefully her taste will be more refined by then. When visiting the paint store or home improvement center, always check to see the colors of discounted paint that they have. When the store personnel mixes up the wrong paint color for someone and they end up not buying it, the paint goes into a discount bin. There are amazing deals to be found here sometimes. Paint the walls and let them dry completely.

Decide on New Bedding

You can find deeply discounted sheets and comforters during the white sales at your local stores. Or, if it happens to be the end of a season, you can usually find good deals. Again, let your daughter have some input on this since she will be the one looking at this pattern day in and day out. Once you have agreed on a bedding set, grab a few extra coordinating sheets.

Curtains

Okay, here’s the reason I told you to buy extra sheets. Instead of paying a lot of money to have matching curtains in your little girl’s bedroom, just purchase a few extra flat sheets. Make sure they are big enough to cover your daughter’s window. Usually, two flat sheets per window will work. Use each sheet as one curtain panel. They already have hems in them, so all you need to do is sew a pocket for the curtain rod. Some sheets even have the pocket already stitched up for you. This is a very economical way of adding polish to your little girl’s bedroom without breaking the bank.

Another window treatment idea for your daughter’s room is to buy a pretty curtain rod for each window. Get a few rolls of sturdy, matching ribbon. Now, use your computer to print out cute pictures of your daughter, her pets, and any other photos of things that she loves. Use rubber cement to paste the pictures onto construction paper that coordinates with the bedroom. I recommend rubber cement because it dries smooth, without leaving the pictures looking wavy. Now, laminate the photos and construction paper. Next, cut the photos into your choice of circles, squares, or flowers. If you are going with a princess theme, cut them into crown shapes. Make sure not to cut the pictures, and leave a border of construction paper. Use a hot glue gun to affix the photo designs onto the ribbon. Glue the ribbon onto the back of the pictures. Take the ribbons with the pictures attached, and wrap a loop around the curtain rod, securing with the hot glue in the back where it won’t show. You can apply the photograph ribbons at varying lengths, with some hanging higher than others. This will allow you to use more photos. Use a mini blind behind this design.

Accessories

If your little girl has a doll crib or bassinet in her bedroom, you can use an extra pillow case on the mattress to make it match the decor.

To decorate a book shelf, you can use a hot glue gun to secure lace or ruffles to the front. Do each individual shelf with this technique.

Purchase an inexpensive throw rug that matches the decorations in your daughter’s bedroom. It does not need to have designs on it, a solid color will do, especially if you can get it on sale. I find that kiddie themed rugs are always priced higher than bathroom rugs. You will want to check this out in your stores. Your daughter will probably not even notice the difference, but your wallet will thank you.

I hope these ideas help you achieve the perfect castle for your little princess.
