Choosing the Right Patio Chairs for You

patio chairsIf you are lucky enough to live by the water or simply want to enjoy the feel of life by the sea, patio chairs can help you create a welcoming retreat that would look right at home on Cape Cod.

Manufacturers have created lovely seaside casual collections of classic favorites, which will look beautiful on your front porch, back deck, by the pool or out in the garden. Just add a glass of iced tea, and you’ll have the perfect oasis of relaxation and respite.

One of the great things about this style is the choices you have. For example, you can go with an Adirondack look, using fresh new takes on Adirondack patio chairs that are still timeless. Some even have built-in rockers, so you can ponder a spell as you enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the outdoors or simply watch the world pass you by.

If you enjoy casual conversation, consider pairing up your seaside patio chairs with a matching bar table. This creates a lovely grouping that will work well in the yard or on the patio. Their light, airy look screams summer.

While the Adirondack style continues to be popular, you can go in other directions as well, capturing the very essence of a summer home in the Hamptons or the traditional straight lines of plantation style furnishings.

Patio chairs come in such a wide range of styles, that it can be really hard to decide which direction to go. While traditional rules the roost when it comes to patio chairs, you can also get a bit tropical, going with chairs that have canvas seats and backs or are made of wicker or even exotic tropical materials such as teak and bamboo.

Wicker is a particularly nice choice for patio chairs as it exudes a mix of the tropics and the sea, giving your outdoor spaces a lot of character as well as durability. Wicker chairs are very strong, largely because of the weave of the wicker and the way they are manufactured. If you’re in a wet climate, you may want to go with a synthetic or metal wicker instead of the traditional form. It will weather the elements better.

The secret to designing a seaside retreat is to select patio chairs that are both stylish and comfortable. You want guests to enjoy their time at your home and not be anxious to leave because the chairs you’ve selected may be the latest style, but not very comfortable.

While white is the classic color of patio chairs in a seaside theme, you can mix it up a bit. For example, you can go with white chairs and a contrasting upholstered seat fabric. You can also mix the colors of the chairs themselves, keeping in the traditional seaside colors of red, yellow, white and blue.

There’s really no limit to what you can do to create a seaside look at your home, even if you live thousands of miles from the ocean. Once you’ve selected the chairs that create the right ambience, you can add other d├ęcor items, such as large shells or perhaps a well placed life ring, model sailboat or antique buoys. You can really let your imagination sore.

You can also add large sunscreen sails to the area, providing your new seaside retreat with a little more nautical flair as well as much needed shade. These sunshades look like sails, but offer great UV protection from the sun’s harmful rays.

And don’t forget about the chairs that go around your patio table. You can get matching or contrasting chairs for that too, so your seaside retreat is complete from stem to stern.
