Coal has been a significant player in the worlds of industry and power almost since the beginning. Coal is widely used as a fuel as it gets ignited very fast. Coal has been used as fuel for about 10,000 years. Like oil, coal is formed over millions of years from plant and animal matter and therefore coal miner must go into the earth to recover it. Once coal is extracted, the topsoil is then replaced and native trees and vegetation is planted to restore the original condition. The contour mining method is most commonly used in areas with rolling to steep terrain.
The Coal Miners work in teams and they work together using techniques that they have been trained for. If the coal seams are too deep underground, then deep underground mining is necessary. The Longwall mining method involves a complex machine with a revolving drum that sways mechanically back and forth across the coal deposit. The mine owners are legally bound or committed to workers for safe guarding their lives against the risks of coal mining. Unfortunately there are many environment disadvantages to using coal power. Society needs to start using renewable energies if we are going to keep pollution in check.
