Advantages: Stone floors can help keep the climate cooler in your home. This is especially beneficial if you live in a state with hotter seasons. Stone floors are also very sturdy and durable. Also, you do not have to worry about stains, since they’re stain resistant. Adding stone flooring to your home radiates a stylish and classy look.

Disadvantages: The beauty of having stone floors definitely comes at a price; it can be very expensive for both purchasing and the installation process. During the winter seasons, it can make the temperature in your house seem even colder. For certain people with leg and feet ailments, stone floors can be hard on these areas.

Marble is on the highest in its class, and is a derivative of limestone. It’s been used all throughout the ancient world for d├ęcor. Marble is a metamorphic stone that can be polished. Many people don’t know that marble is actually softer than tile, thus making the characteristics of marble soft, and easily scratched by acids. There are thousands of different types of marble all around the world. If marble is treated with a stain- resistant sealer, it can potentially last up to 10 years before resealing. Dark Emperador marble is a luxurious dark brown with dramatic striations of white.

Granite is extremely hard (2nd to diamond) and more durable then marble or travertine. Granite is also used as a common staple for kitchen countertops. This powerful stone is wearable and resistant for pretty much any application. Granite’s composition is made up of feldspar and quartz, and is stain and scratch resistant. Gallo Veneziano is a popular type of granite that comes from the mountain of Brazil, and is a brown taupe color with vibrant colors of gold, blacks and browns. Black Galaxy comes mostly from India, and is mainly black with fleck of gold and white crystals.

Slate is a very versatile stone that can be used for both interior and exteriors. Slate is an ancient metamorphic rock that comes from mainly India and China. All slate pieces have a natural “clefting” along the surface that adds dimension, and layer. Slate is very dense and is composed of shale, clay, quartz, mica, calcite, and chlorite. This stone is also water-resistant, which makes is the perfect candidate for pool surrounding areas or patios. Slate is also non-slippery and come is a wide array of colors reds, gold, oranges, brown, blue, green, black, and mauve.

Stone floors will add beauty and sophistication to your humble abode. Whether you want a shiny, matte, or textured finish, the options are endless!
