Preparing Your Outdoor Patio Furniture for Winter

Preparing Your Outdoor Patio Furniture for WinterDo you live in a state where it snows and the weather gets really cold at times during winter? Then preparing your patio for the winter season is important. Preparing for the winter will protect your investment and won’t let all your hard work be wasted especially if you have worked to make your patio look great. Neglecting your valuable outdoor space and outdoor items will not only cause damages to your property but will also ruin your investment in that great design. There are several ways to prepare and have your patio ready for the winter.

Storing Plants

Securing an indoor space for your outdoor plants will be a great idea if you want to bring them inside. However, you need to carefully check the plants that you are bringing in for any kinds of diseases or insects. Storing even just a single insect carrying or disease-infected plant inside your home will not only affect your peaceful living but will also infect your other plants. Before bringing your plants indoors, check and see if they could stand to be pruned.

Storing Patio Furniture

Remove dried leaves from your patio furniture as these can potentially leave stains and deteriorate the look of any kind of surface whether it is stone or wood. And before winter comes, make sure to clean your patio thoroughly from leaves.

Storing Other Outdoor Items

Take care of any items that have rust on them as well. You can use a metal brush and a rust solution to easily remove those rust spots on your furniture and tools. If you think it will help, add some paint to make those items look new again.

You should always take care with your larger items, don’t just leave them outside.. Place them in an area that has a regulated temperature and not exposed to the harsh elements. A garage, shed, or your basement will do. Always clean these items prior to storage. Deck boxes are another great idea to store some of your items. And anything you leave outside should have a cover on it. There are many styles of covers available, from simple to designer patterns.
