Tips You Can Use to Get Rid Of Stink Bugs

Get Rid Of Stink Bugs
When they’re in your home, you’ll know. Stink bugs, well, stink. They’re not dirty, but when agitated, they exude a smell like molding food. So if you happen to come across a green or brown bug with a shield-shaped back… DON’T STEP ON IT. You don’t want to leave it there, but there are things you can do that won’t result in gassing your home.

The key to stink bug control is to get to them as quickly as possible. This is because a female shield bug is able to lay up to 100 eggs. Eggs can hatch in just days. When they’re not hibernating or reproducing, they’re eating, especially the babies. They eat and eat and eat. So, in planning this part of your pest control plan, know what products are available.

The stink bug is usually found outdoors. However, when it gets too cold out, they may attempt to come inside. To prevent possible infestations of these pests, it is advised to caulk around windows and doors which are primary entry points for them and other pests. Stopping the bugs before they get in should be step one in any pest control plan. Also check to be sure that window and door screens are in good shape. Even entry points where pipes and wires enter the home could be entry points for unwanted guests.

If you do find yourself with an infestation, you may consider using an insecticide. Insecticides often work as both a repellent and a contact killer. As the stink bug rarely goes far from its food source (plants), it’s nice that many insecticides are plant friendly, used both indoors and outdoors.

If you are a bit apprehensive about using chemicals in controlling pests, you might consider more natural deterrents. Some animals, and even plants, have the ability to keep the bug at bay.

Another less evasive option is the stink bug trap. The trap combines light, scent, and glue. The internal heats up the trap and radiates a scent that is irresistible to the bug. You won’t notice it, but you’ll certainly notice when it starts working. The stick to the trap like fly paper. As insecticides, the trap comes in both indoor and outdoor models. All you have to do is hang the trap by its hook and wait. But note, the trap should be kept in a dark area as to not be upstaged by other light. Also, you won’t want to place in an overly heated area as that could melt the adhesive.
