Which Flooring Type Is Right for You?

bedroom ceramic flooringChoosing the right floor can involve many factors. You must take into account your lifestyle, your décor and the amount of maintenance that your floor will involve. If you have young children then you may want a floor that is easy to maintain and easy to clean. You may also want a floor that is easily wiped cleaned when spills are likely to happen. If you have pets then you may not want a floor that is easily scratched. However, if it is a long lasting floor that you want then you may opt for solid wooden flooring.

Solid wooden flooring must be maintained regularly. It can look extremely impressive in a home and will last for a very long time. A wooden floor must be swept with a soft brush regularly to prevent a buildup of dust and dirt in-between the boards. A wooden floor must also be polished and cleaned in order to maintain its shine. If you have solid wooden flooring in an area that is regularly walked on, then you may opt to put down a mat or rug in order to prevent general wear and tear. If you do have pets, then it can be a risk that their claws will scratch the wooden surface.

Laminate flooring is extremely convenient and can be installed at home without any professional assistance. Laminate flooring has significantly developed since it was first produced. Installation of wooden flooring does not involve any glue or nails and slots into place. Laminate flooring is a great replica for solid wood flooring and is significantly less expensive. It is easy to maintain with its wipe clean nature. If you have pets and young children then dirt and spills are very easy to control.

Vinyl flooring is another alternative option that has developed significantly over the years. Vinyl flooring now has a great reputation and is suitable in rooms that may be subjected to water spills, such as in the kitchen or bathroom. Vinyl is also used in public places for the same reasons- that it is very easy to clean. Vinyl flooring is also easily adapted to trends and styles to suit your home. Vinyl flooring can replicate wood, stone, leather or slate effect. It is great for areas that may be subject to high amounts of traffic and wear and tear.

Carpet is still a popular choice of flooring for many homes. This option, however, means that spills and dirt are harder to remove. To keep your carpet at its best, it will also regularly need a deep clean. If you use a company to do this then it can be expensive. Carpet is best suited for living rooms and bedrooms. Kitchens and bathrooms are not as suited to carpets, as these are areas that are regularly exposed to water spills; in these areas laminate or vinyl flooring is better advised.
